Although not really within the Greater Manchester boundary, some birders and certainly Rochdale birders, consider the complex of reservoirs up there as part of our area. So i thought i'd better pass on that Alan Nuttall found an avocet at whiteholme res on saturday afternoon. Big thanks and great reward to Alan for dedication up there. It's certainly a first for Rochdale birders. I managed to see it just after 6pm and got a rather distant photo with it's head tucked back out of view! It was still being seen by Calderdale birders (with it's head in view!)at 8pm so is likely to be there overnight and if not, who knows where it will go. i'll send the photo on to Ian but i'm sure others will appear elsewhere.
