In Summerseat, you need to try on the river between Riverside Drive (where the Holcombe brook joins the river) and the Railway St bridge - also view from Island Bridge half way along where the new building is taking place. My mum lives there and I see them frequently, Also Burrs CP is a good place to see them, under the railway bridges.

Lightshaw hall Flash is sacrosanct - NO paths please!
Several pairs of dipper are usually on the river Roch at various points between Queen's Park in Heywood to Heap bridge. Usually see them on the river in Queens Park, also as the river runs through Gristlehurst woods and from the footbridge behind Fairfield Hospital (reachable from the hospital and also footpath from heap bridge). You are also likely to see kingfisher in the same areas. Steve
Summerseat near Ramsbottom is meant to be pretty reliable too -I say pretty reliable - my mate has a 100% record as he lives near there - I have a 0% record on my 5 attempts!!
Also could try the weir on the river at Gigg in Bury (behind the cemetery), saw 3, 1 adult and 2 juvenile earlier this year. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=381500&y=409500&z=3&sv=381500,409500&st=4&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&ax=380500&ay=410500 A very reliable sight is Longworth Clough nr Belmont, nearly always see them there as long as I am patient and alert keep checking the river trying to not flush them.
River Irwell is not a reliable site, try Bradshaw brook at Seven Acres country park Bolton, at Thicketford rd, off Crompton Way, or Jumbles.c.p. between the reservoir and Bradshaw Cricket ground.
Where exactly was the dipper? Would like to find a reliable site fairly close to where we live, in Bury. Last Dipper we managed ti find was up in Bowland, near Dunsop Bridge!
