On the main lake the family of 5 Mute Swans is sadly now only 4 with one of the juveniles lying dead on the edge of the island. Also round the lake were 2 Grey Heron - one on the ice & the other perched in a tree.
The only other sightings on the main reserve were a single Brambling & a Cormorant over but on leaving a Cetti's Warbler was seen & heard & a Woodcock flushed whilst many Jackdaw's were coming in to roost.
The Hawthorns running along Pennington Brook hosted plenty of activity including :- Tree Sparrows, Chaffinch, Long-Tailed Tits, Coal Tit, Goldfinch, Goldcrest & Jay's whilst on the brook was a black & white 'Manky Mallard'.
The United Utility filter beds was a birding black & white with scores of Magpie & Pied Wagtails. A single Meadow Pipit was also seen here but strangely a complete absence of the usual Gulls.

Friday 6th November 2.15pm to 4.15pm - a very pleasant couple of hours weather for a change!
Cetti's Warbler heard in reedbed near eastern path.
Also in same area M & F Bullfinch, Treecreeper & Long Tailed Tits.
Further down the path I came across an injured male Bullfinch which could only partly fly so I managed to coax it into
a thick brambled area for cover & hope nature is kind to it.
A Grey Wagtail was on Pennington Brook & in the Hawthorns along its edge was a Willow Tit, Tree Sparrows & a couple of Goldcrests.
On the hidden large eastern lake were 2 Cormorant, about 50 flighty Teal, 4 Grey Heron together & 2 Mute Swan with 3 juveniles.
On the United Utilities filter beds there were Pied Wagtails galore with the odd Grey Wagtail mixed in, but then a female Sparrowhawk sent everything into a frenzy. A Raven was also seen around this area.
A family party of at least four Raven arounds the sewage works itself around midday, also 5 Tree Sparrow along Pennington Brook by the bridge, flying across to feed in the very well stocked garden on the opposite side and eight Chiffchaff singing around the site.
Black-headed gull with a black leg ring on the left leg, X2VA at the sewage works today (see attached photo). I'm still waiting for full details but it appears that it was ringed in Germany.
The only other sighting of note was about 50 swifts chasing each other around over the sewage works.
Green sandpiper this morning, a different bird to that which I saw last week also, peregrine, 50 swift and a female teal, the first I have seen here for a couple of months.
Mediterranean gull 2 adults flying around calling over the sewage works
Whitethroat 2 singing
Cetti's warbler 2 singing in the usual locations.
A disappointing visit to Hope Carr, my first visit for a week due to work and I thought there might be something new in but no, everything was pretty much as I left it. To make matters worse there was a guy with a riffle wandering around and a couple of other strange characters. I think I'm about done with the place to be honest, I've felt uncomfortable here for a while now and combined with the fact that I just don't get any pleasure out of this type of birding these days I just don't think it's worth it anymore.
No doubt that there were 2 Cetti's warblers, they were about 200m apart and after hearing the second I went back to the location of the first and it was still there.
