RE: river irwell/fairbrother st 31/05/07

Hope it was the male peregrine doing some work for a change. It sat on the E of "Arndale" throughout the ringing yesterday, completely ignoring the racket the female was making whilst the chicks were ringed.
How many Sand Martins are nesting in the drainage pipes in the concrete bank near Cottenham Lane footbridge, Geoff?

lovely morning twitch,
2 wrens 1 blackbird
2 greenfinch 6 goldfinch
20 sandmartins 1 mystery wader(flew off only seen in distance)
6 mallard 12 mute swan
2 tame swallows 30 swift over
and yesterday just as i packed my bins and new camera away a peregrine screeched past with the chick,s breakfast in it,s claws, feathers everywhere and two black headed gulls mobbing it for titbits ,make,s the morning patrol worth while.
