A flock of c300 Chaffinch on Astley Moss, at the junction of Nook Lane and Rindle Road, appeared to contain no Brambling but did harbour around 20 Linnet. The Chaffinches were feeding in the stubble field opposite the junction (along with 120 Starling), going too and from the roadside trees but were also picking from the road itself and drinking from puddles. It was odd seeing cars having to slow down to a crawl to make their way through the birds which were disinterested in the approaching vehicles and very reluctant to fly off!
A flock of 50 or so Goldfinch were also feeding high in nearby birch and 48 Collard Dove in a single flock were moving around the area.
