Afternoon visit 13.00-16.30 approx

Little Woolden LWTNR

2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Kestrels, 3 Ravens, 1 pair of Teal (M+F), 1 Curlew, 2 Oystercatchers,

100+ Lapwings (Post breeding flock?) gathered on the pool along SE corner of the reserve

and 1 adult Lapwing seen guarding 4 small youngsters.

Swifts in view throughout my stay, seemed impossible to estimate numbers.

8+ Willow Warblers and 2 Chiffchaffs singing along the birch woodland on the South side the reserve.

1 Yellow Wagtail flushed off a fence post by the River Glaze (GM side) as I slowly drove past.

A pair of Yellow Wagtails on field 67 of Astley Moss this early afternoon.

On Astley Moss East, including the old sand quarry lake:

25 Greylag Geese

One Shelduck

Three Tufted Ducks

Two Dunlins (adult and first-summer) on the flooded section of peat close to the railway

Two Sanderlings

Adult Mediterranean Gull flew through W/NW

Adult Hobby hunting to the east

Quick visit to west end of Little Woolden Moss LWTNR at about 2:00pm today (after Penn Flash).

Along with a couple of others I saw:

  • Red Kite being mobbed by a pair of crows
  • 2 Hobby returning every 15-20 minutes to do some more hunting - eating (presumably) dragonflies mid-air
