HI Jim,
I wonder if these terns are anything to do with the pair that frequent Jumbles Resr? A few years ago now, they tried to breed there on a raft to do with the sailing, but didn't succeed, and have hung about there most years since. Not too far away.

2 Common Terns were at Gleabe Lodge, Astley Bridge about 3pm today. They spent time fishing, and caught several small fish. They flew around several times, calling with the fishless bird closely following or flying parallel to the one with the food, calling all the time. I wondered if it was some kind of courtship display?

2 birds (almost certainly the same ones) seen about an hour later at Shore Lodge off Blackburn Road.
