I see 1 or 2 most days as I have been based in the city centre for 8 weeks or so now. In fact I just saw one fly past the window and over the Town Hall as I write this. Saw what looked like the Adult Female on Town Hall this morning, which just went past again now. Had a younger smaller bird mid morning too!
A rather scruffy looking Peregrine was sat on the Liverpool Street gasometer in Salford today between 11.50am -12.40 pm .It was raining for part of the time the bird was there and its feathers were quite fluffed up, it may have been preening before I saw it. When it flew off it seemed to be moving OK as it headed towards Manchester city centre.
A Peregrine was perched on the Liverpool street gasometer in Salford this evening at 18.50pm along with a juvenile Kestrel sat about 30` away. They were both looking down at the road between the gasometers and the EMR scrapyard.There are a lot of rats seen crossing the road in this area and I wondered if the birds were looking for easier meal than catching birds in flight.
had a look this morning,07/07/07 not so much a sighting just a peregrine head showing on top of the lowery hotel roof, 07.30,others presumed hiding or off hunting
Hi Judith The V&A is on Water street just before Quay Street . The Hotel is on the opposite side of the road from the old Granada Studio Tours building. The river was very fast moving and its normal dirty brown colour but the small basin in front of the hotel and between the large NCP car park was very quiet and full of fish which I could see moving about as I looked down from Water street next to the bus shelter.The Kingfishers were perched on the metal railings just below me.
Dave - what street is the Marriot V&A Hotel on? I just need to record all breeding or possibly breeding Kingfishers (Sch1 means I have to send in reports on them to RBBP) Cheers, Judith

I made a rare visit to Manchester this morning and even through the rain hardly stopped I had 4 separate sightings of the Peregrines. All were at some distance from me and the only decent view was 1 adult perched on the Granada TV building.
Also of interest was watching 1 adult Kingfisher and 1 possible juvenile [ plumage was a lot duller ] fishing in the small lock basin in front of the Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel. I spent 15 minutes watching them as close as 20`, the adult caught 4 small fish and ate the lot while the juvenile just watched. A nice sight on a miserable morning.
had another look this morning but i got to site a bit late 7.30 till 7.55,i could only see 2 wing tips and a tail on the red brick building so take your pick on which one it was. i am on holiday till wed so can,t visit ,can somebody go and find all six please. cheers geoff
i had a look this morning,and only saw three juvs no adults present,they were on a building a bit further down river than the usual at 6.30 to7.00am when i left them sunbathing.
I attended site yesterday and today. I am only getting 3 juveniles when there should be 4. If anyone can confirm 4 juvs I would be grateful...it's not looking good I fear.
tuesday 6.30 am one adult on the red brick building catching a few rays 6.45 two young ones flew in, lots of screaming and begging,pester power?7.00 all three flew off and i think i could see them over/on the arndale tower
Without doubt 3 birds had fledged by Friday 22nd June. I watched 3 today over Manchester practising their hunting skills ...they were in competition with the police helicopter over- looking the protest marches and the visit by Gordon Brown. I don't think Gordon came to see our peregrines. He missed a good show. One adult was present. I do not know for certain that the 4th bird fledged though I guess by now it has. I presume the bird I did not see was taken out by the other parent for some Top Gun training. I hope so at any rate.
I have managed some fledge day photos and one or two were taken today. unfortunately (Ian , Judith) my emails are bouncing back.
I am reasonably sure the adult male is without a ring.
Hope you enjoy the photos. Especially those I took today when I got soaked to the skin. They are not great for obvious reasons. The birds have kept me from doing other stuff but I don't complain. They are a joy to watch and have been instrumental in introducing many more members into the birding community. Not a bad thing!

went this morning 07.00 approx 3 peregrine showing wel(viewed from victoria bridge)l but i was ill prepared and tested the camera beyond its limits (see atavar thingy under me name)am going tommorow to do it properly.
A friend from work has just phoned me to tell me one of the peregrines is perched on one of the cabins on the big wheel in the town centre and is just going round and round on it. Its even posing for photo's at the bottom. It sound's like its one of the newly fledged chicks and she has taken photo's on her phone of it!
Adrian has just sent me photos he took today of all 4 juvs on the ledge, due to fledge any day now. Ian will put them on the website shortly I'm sure. The RSPB/BBC coverage has finished.

I saw a Peregrine flying over Liverpool street in Salford this morning at 6.30 am carrying what looked like an adult Lapwing. It was heading in the general direction of Manchester city centre.
Adrian Dancy tells me that both the adults are ringed (his photos are a zillions times better than the CCTV pictures) so presumption that they are the same pair as bred last year would seem to be in order. DNA analysis would provide details of the parentage but might start a Peregrine paternity suit!
Thanks for your reply Judith. As I work opposite the gasometers in Liverpool street I tend to check them for birds about 20 times a day so I see a Peregrine normally once or twice a week. It keeps the local pigeons on their toes.
Dave, Jake - both the Peregrines which bred last year there had rings (sadly we couldn't read them, we needed a Questar!) but interestingly, of the birds which frequented the City Tower the previous year (2005) only one was ringed. There have been 3 adults together on the ledge in the winter months and last year, at one point, there were 3 prs in the city centre (one pair breeding and 2 prs doing nothing as far as we know). Last year's young were all ringed, with red Darvics as well as metals, and this year's will be done this week. As I said previously, one of last year's young was found dead (just a leg was found) at Dovestones. The BBC / RSPB pictures this year have not been of a good enough quality to see if the pair have rings, so are the same (presumed) as last year. Hopefully, we should be able to ascertain this week if the birds are ringed. (We could always tell if the chicks had the same parents year to year from the DNA samples taken by the ringer, of course, which are stored, if there was a problem). The gas works bird is very interesting. About 10 years ago they used to use the gas works at Ancoats similarly; there was then a birder living in the area who noted this, but sadly he died. There is a box in position at the CIS tower should anyone care to use it, and one at the town hall also.

This is probably a question that Judith may be able to answer. I have looked at the excellent photo`s by Adrian Dancy of the Manchester Peregrines feeding their young and notice that one of the adults has been ringed. Is there any infomation about this bird.Was it ringed in the Manchester area and how old is it?
