This morning in poor weather 8am till 9.15am, caught up with part of an impressive duck movement of Wigeon and Teal.
130 Wigeon west - five flocks of 25, 31, 37, 13 and 24 through, couple of flocks tried to land 40 Teal dropped in then flew west 155 Redwing over and a further 40 in hedges by the creek 7 Swallow 5 Siskin

Hi Fred Ford most of the site with the loss off the hedgerows, Fields, Elton goyt including the marsh. Have attached some of the proposals photos to give you an idea of the proposed distruction, which the local council seem to be pushing for along with Simister and Walshaw proposals.

I've seen the Jackdaws for many years near dawn and dusk. I've been told they travel from Phillips Park to Redisher woods. Does anyone know if this is true?
08.00- 11.55am highlight of 50 species. 1 Spotted flycatcher. 5 House Martin's. 4 Swallows. 1 Blackcap. 13 Chiffchaff. 2 Willow warblers. 1 Goldcrest. 1 Willow Tit. 3 Kingfishers. 16 Lapwing. 2 Snipe. 17 Gadwall. 2 Shoveler. 2 Teal 13 Wigeon. 7 Water Rail heard only along the canal between bridge 19 and Benny's. The Lesser Black backed Gull with pink legs was present again.
This morning a flock of 54 Wigeon flew high west, also 9 Wigeon present on the reservoir along with 28 Gadwall, 10 Shoveler and 3 Little Grebe. 10 Swallow's feeding over Elton Goyt and 6 flew over haeding south.
This a.m. with Malcolm, Wigeon, Shoveler, Gadwall, Teal with the usual Mallard and Tufted Duck. 33 Pied Wagtail around the pumphouse with 4 Grey Wagtail and numerous Meadow Pipits. Kingfisher in the creek with 2 Little Grebe also. Cheers Ian

Osprey flew over from the north hovered over the res a couple of times then continued south over Radcliffe Swift 369 Meadow Pipit south 126 Swallow south 96 House Martin south 2 Sand Martin south 3 Skylark NE 13 Reed Bunting SW 31 Goosander flew over off the moors
On the res 9 Wigeon 16 Shoveler 17 Gadwall 5 Teal Little Grebe Kingfisher

Meadow pipits passing Goosanders 6+ Female common scoter showed well Snipe Lapwing 40 Teal Wigeon Shoveler At least 7 grey wagtail Kingfisher Goldfinch in a flock of 150 House Martin
And I just missed out on a common sandpiper on my arrival.
Female Common Scoter still present this evening, also an adult Hobby cruising around Elton Goyt and then over the reservoir at 5.30pm sent the hundreds of Swallows present into a frenzy. Also present were 2 Common Gull, 250 Lesser Black-backed Gull and in the hedge by the Pumphouse at least 7 Chiffchaffs.
07:00-08:30am with Ian C highlights. 1 Common Scoter flew around the Reservoir before flying off east. 2 Goosander. 6 Gadwall. 50+ Tufted ducks. 18 Mute Swans. 1 Common Sandpiper. 1 Curlew Heard only. 1 Kingfisher. 60+ Swallows. 6 House Martin's. 2 Sand Martin's.

This a.m. with Simon J and Brian, highlights included 2 Yellow Wagtail, 1 or possibly 2 Whinchat, 1 Shelduck, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Common Sandpiper again plenty of Hirundines with double figures of Swift. A possible Tree Pipit and a fly through Peregrine also seen. Cheers Ian
Slightly later than Simon J and partly with Simon W, the Hirundines had increased to over 1,000 making a spectacular showing with 8 Swift also. Only 1 juv. Little Gull was present for us, 4 Common Sandpiper and 1 Green Sandpiper also. After Simon left there was a passage of Meadow Pipit with 20+ over. Cheers Ian

I was impressed when at least 73+ goosanders passed over (Simon will have more accurate higher figures) Still a few Swifts hanging about and slowly heading out against the wind.. 14 lapwings Snipe Pheasant 2 common sandpiper A buzzard passing through 3 Grey wagtail Gadwall 3 shoveler 1 Teal Tufted ducks are arriving in increasing numbers now with at least about 20 (Warblers of chiffchaff, Blackcap still about)
And my favourite find was a stock dove in a field with wood pigeons

I've been keeping records of swifts, swallows and Martins departure dates since 2009 and the latest swift I've personally seen in one year was on August 28th 2015 and this year has now broken that record as there are still a few about. On the 30th.
So highlights this morning include:
Swift Gadwall Teal 8x goosanders Pheasant 60? lapwings Common sandpiper Great black backed gull, but very mobile 2x Rooks passing through close

Morning visit to Elton partly with Simon Warford highlights. 3 Hobby over 1 South 1 SW 1 chasing Martin's before heading off north. Poor Record shots attached. 1 Garden Warbler. 1 Willow Tit. 32 Swifts. 15 Tufted Duck. 5 Gadwall. 4 Common Sandpipers. 15 Lapwing over SE.
Woke up before my alarm clock this morning so set off a little earlier. Despite that, We (with a short encounter with Ian and Steven) found no trace of Simon's pintail, but a few other things were seen.
My highlights include from 6:30 - 10am....
Pheasant Lapwing flew over numbering 100 3 snipe with 4 others flying in. Gadwall Swift Grey wagtail
Near the Creek:
Jay Goldcrest (around 3) Willow tit really close to about 8ft. He was very active in and out of the greenery. A good number of warblers were flitting about (of Blackcap, willow warbler and chiffchaff)
