This a.m. 8-10 a.m. with Malcolm, Pintail still present with 17 Teal also on the res. On wires near Crow Trees a single Swallow. 5 Teal on pond by canal. 7 Chiffchaff seen around the sight most singing.

Looking at the photos attached of the Pintail this also looks like a drake to me similar to the one at Shell Pool this morning. ( Long grey scapulars and a two toned blue beak) but I stand to be corrected!

55 species during a morning circuit 7.25 to 11.00:

1 Pintail, 1 Wigeon, 5 Shoveler and 25 Teal, the latter mainly on the pool by the canal.

At least 200 Pink Feet over in multiple skeins.

14 Snipe, 1 Water Rail calling next to the canal.

2 Kingfisher, one on the Res and the other on the Irwell.

5 Swallow, 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Mistle Thrush, 1 Raven and 2 Lesser Redpoll over.

1 Willow Tit on the feeders.

This afternoon.

Male Stonechat. Along the track up to Old Hall Farm sat on barbed wire fence.

Kingfisher on Res.

Dipper below within a Res on stream.

Female Sparrowhawk catching a Snipe. This is the 4th time I have witnessed this.It is normally sat in the same willow bush waiting to ambush. On each occasion two snipe have flown in it has shot across and dropped down. Only one has flown off.

This a.m. with Malcolm, on the res. 67 Cormorant, 3 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 7 Teal, 104 Tufted Duck, 1 Kingfisher and 31 Great Crested Grebe. Overhead 1 Swallow and 46 Meadow Pipit. Around the pumphouse 28 Pied and 3 Grey Wagtail. At the feeders at least 2 Willow Tit.

3pm slow walk around the mound with the dog. 

This beautiful female wheatear landed litrally 5 feet from me, posed nicely for a photo and then carried on with its migration flying across the res towards the pump house. 

Also X2 juvenile chiffchaff briefly jittering around the hawthorn under the pylon.

At the feeders, X1 Coal Tit of note .

Also noteworthy was a snipe and a brief view of an eclipse garganey on the pool next to the canal. Several teal were also mingling with it but seemed to be shy. Ta!

weather = Biblical 

Hundreds of hirundines all out feeding on the res in the gailforce winds. Mainly Swallows, Sand Martin and a few House Martin. I would even go as far to say it's the most I've seen all at once all summer!

 One excellent bird of note was a single whinchat at Crowtrees and a peregrine slowly making its way along the pylons towards Radcliffe.

This a.m. with Malcolm, main birding interest was in the hedgerows with 23 Chiffchaff, 8 Willow Warbler and 1 Blackcap identified. Also at least 8 Jays seen. Approx 80 Swallows and 15 House Martin around Crow Trees.
Howard the feeders are next to the car park before the entrance to the sailing club.

This a.m. with Malcolm, on the res. 1 Shoveler of note, at the feeders a Sparrowhawk, on the river 2 Kingfisher and mainly around Crow Trees 90 Swallow, 16 House Martin and 7 Sand Martin. In the hedgerows 8 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler and 1 Blackcap and 10 Teal on pool by canal. 7 Meadow Pipit also.

06:00-10:50am A good day for ducks. 3 Pintail 1 flew in @ 06:20am then 2 dropped in near Capsticks only to leave west when a dog walker walked past as soon as they landed.(record shot attached ) 1 Garganey with 3 Wigeon dropped in for about 5 minutes. (distant record shot attached) 1 pochard (Record shot attached) amongst some Tufted Ducks. 45 Tufted Ducks. 9 Teal 5 on Res 4 in pool next to Canal. 3 Great Black backed Gulls having a go at the Wigeon & Garganey causing them to leave. 8 Herring Gulls 1 Kingfisher. 1 Snipe. 3 Meadow Pipits over. 75 Swallows over SE 22 House Martins over S 4 Sand Martins. 2 Willow Warblers. 3 Chiffchaff. 1 Whitethroat 1 Willow Tit at the feeders.. 1 Pheasant. 1 Sparrowhawk.
