On my arrival this morning for half an hour- the sand martins were feeding high up above the reservoir, (still no swallows yet) worthy of note; there was a stunning looking summer plumaged common gull amongst the black headed gulls with at least one lesser black backed gull. That's all I can report for now I'm afraid.

Worthy of note; at least about 120 sand martins are feeding over the reservoir. I've had a careful scan through them both at 10am and 2pm and so far we don't have any swallows with them. Maybe tomorrow? ?

This morning and briefly and again at 2nd. I counted just over 300 black headed gulls with 2 herring gulls and 1 1st winter lesser black backed gull. No sign of the wheatear but the chiffchaffs are very active. Also to note; sand martin, bullfinch, lapwings, and 4 pink footed geese are surprisingly still near withins.

1,30 - 2,30 - half a walk round with the dog, with the relentless rain!
X1 Barnacle goose with the Canada geese, (from looking through my photo records doesn't seem to match any of the 3 resedent ones at Lowercroft res, yet I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it being one of them)
X1 common gull on one of the buoys
X1 chiffchaff opposite the feeders
X1 female sparrowhawk, that nearly had a song thrush on the patch of grass with the little pony's on next to the sailing club.

A potter about this afternoon. A few things worthy of a note include 3 (possibly 4) goldeneye with 3 on withins along with 4 pink footed geese which was a nice to find, 7 lapwings, a dozen meadow pipits on Elton fields, the 2 sand martins (my personal earliest sighting in the year), 2 reed buntings, and of course the common scoter. About 30+ large gulls were also present with 8 great black backed gulls in plus the usual including a darker shade grey herring gull (Definitely herring). Ta!

I thought I heard a green woodpecker this morning but I thought nah! Couldn't be or so I thought, until Simon's post. I heard it come from the fields area of the canal and withins. This was at around 8am.

4,30pm gull roost was 200 plus I tried to search through it for any specials, was hard with position of the sun, quite a few juvenile Great black-backed gulls dominating the buoys. Only bird of note was a female Stonechat on the field adjacent to the pump house.
