Linnet.... 60 to 70, on wire, with a few ground feeding.

Kestrel......1 on power pole.

My first visit of 2019. Up to 1.10pm. Dull dry weather.

Herring Gull...1

Lesser Black-backed and Black-headed Gulls, present.

Shoveler.1 drake

Teal.... .4

Jackdaw...30+

The Scaup are thought by Phil, to be still present, but hidden in willow carr in Teal Bay and were not seen.

The Yellow-legged Gull had gone.

Sparrowhawk.1  it made at least 4 passes at the shore flock. On it's last pass corvids put up resistance.

Little Egret briefly at 10am

 

Other birds included Greenshank, 9 Snipe, 34 Lapwing, 8 Teal, 63 Pink-footed Geese flew low SW at 11:36, 130 Linnet and 70 Goldfinch in one feeding flock, Willow Tit, Chiffchaff and 20 Meadow Pipit.

10.15am to 2.30pm. Working on the cockle beds on the islands etc. with Bolton Conservation Volunteers. Birds seen during the visit include:

This evening, sunny.

I located the Spotted Redshank at 6.40pm, it was moving quickly along the east shore. Then the Greenshank harassed the Spotted Redshank 5 times, before they separated.

Superb views of these two birds. The Greenshank very active and crisscrossing the lodge calling. ''The Spotted Red'' lit with sunshine and fairly close.

Many thanks to Simon Warford for finding the Spotted Redshank!

Other sightings:

Snipe...6 or 7 see below.

The Kestrel of last night was identified tonight, as a juvenile.

Linnet...c120

As I walked up along Redstart hedge, A snipe type rose out of water plants in the large hollow. It's purpose apparently was to defecate.

Only glimpsed but a possible Jack Snipe candidate.

Teal ...14, minimum count.
