RE: RUMWORTH LODGE


 This evening up to 5.30. Turning drizzly.

At 4.25 a Common Sandpiper flew low across the lodge, and fed for a while on the east shoreline.

The 3 Black-tailed Godwits still present as I left.

Grey Heron...2, including a juvenile.

At least 25 Pied Wagtail.

Lapwing ...19 present on my arrival but went.

Single female Reed Bunting which was a juvenile.

Today up to 1pm. Breezy and cloudy but with some sun.

Redstart....1, a stunning male. Thanks to Phil for the assist; he rang me from the east side, having seen the Redstart and myself on the west side.

Lapwing....42

Little Egret....1, in with Canada geese.

House Martin...c25 around the fields by the wood

Swallow.....c20

Kestrel...1, hunting.

Hobby flew SW at 11:14, with Ringed Plover, 5 Black-tailed Godwits and a juvenile Goosander also present.

Phil had additional sightings of:

juvenile Yellow Wagtail.... 1 briefly 

Hobby.. 1 through Swallows near mouth of dam channel.

On Friday 3rd August 2018 I posted that Bolton Conservation Volunteers would be working on the islands at Rumworth on the 12th August 2018. Due to objections from the farmer this work has had to be postponed until the 9th Sept 2018.

Today up to 1.15...Hot and sunny.

Little Egret....1 still present on leaving.

Little Grebe....1 not common here these days.

Peregrine...1 mid height over eastern fields. Site tick for myself, and with thanks to several shouts from Phil Rhodes as he was leaving!

Grey Heron ...4 seen together; probably 6 present.

This evening. Dam and Seddon Fold only. ( I did set off for the lodge but ran out of time, so I stayed at Seddon Fold)

Grey Heron....2 In channel.

Wheatear...1 female or possible juvenile~ it was a nervous bird near the horses. Photos at some distance.

Flocks:

Jackdaw.c75

Starling...c140 often packed on wire.

Lapwing... c45 leaving the lodge over me > SW

At around 8.30 7 large plover size birds came off the Lodge going away from me> SW... Not ID'd.

The eleven Black-tailed Godwit still present as I left at 5 o'clock. Feeding just in water on west shore.

Also:

Pied Wagtail.... 7, mainly juveniles.

Linnet...2 on wire. one a male and the other a probable juvenile.

Greenfinch...6 on wire, 3 being juvenile.

Lesser Black-backed gull....3

Grey Heron....3

Great Crested Grebe...2 including the ''mature'' juvenile.

Beaumont Road side, 8.50am to 10.05am. 26 species seen including:

  • Lapwings 80+
  • Grey Herons 3
  • Great Crested Grebes 2
  • Swifts 15+
  • Swallows 25+
  • Reed Buntings 4
  • Willow Tit 1
  • Kingfisher 1 (seen initially in the willow scrub well away from the water, then later seen being chased by a swallow around the islands)
  • House Martins 12+
  • Pied Wagtails 4
  • White Wagtail 1

On Sunday 12/08/2018 10.15am to 2.30pm. a group of volunteers including myself will be working on the islands anyone interested will be welcome see details at www.boltonconservation.org.uk/page5.htm.

This afternoon from different viewpoint. Good views of most of lodge apart from the southern mud; however I know that Phil has covered this today.

Today around 12.30 pm. Dam/wood:

Blue/green algae by the dam. Quiet.

A juvenile Grey Heron was having a long stare at the green soup below it's feet.

A juvenile Carrion Crow was begging from a parent.

Coot family in the channel...6 or 7

Moorhen...2

Kingfisher and Dipper, both past regulars here, have not been seen( by me) this year.

In the wood:

Coal Tit...3

Nuthatch...2

Increased numbers of Lesser Blacked-back Gulls, 35 present and Great Crested Grebe,7 present.

Lots of Juvenile Jackdaws, and a single nicely coloured Linnet. 6 Coots together at the Dam.
