Whimbrel flew NW from the islands at 12:04 today; also present were an adult Mediterranean Gull, White Wagtail, 4 Common Sandpipers, 2 Redshank, 2 pairs of Shoveler.
Great views of a Sparrowhawk attacking along the flood; sadly for him the birds had all flushed a good 5 seconds earlier. Oystercatchers(2) among them. Also 2 Snipe showing well less that 25 yards from the Lane.

Planting of the replacement ''footpath hedge'' is now complete. It is planted in double rows with holly among the hawthorn. My neighbour tells me that there is some sort of oak in the hedge, as well. It looks a good job, and the farmer appears to have cross rutted below the gate, presumably to deter the idiots who drive down and get stuck at night. It is not on quite the same line as the original hedge, but I think we should adopt the right hand side of this hedge as the footpath.

This am: Seven Gadwall were on the Lock Lane Flood.
Also seen were 4 Linnet, 2 Reed Bunting, a Song Thrush in full voice, and 2 SKYLARK.
The Beaumont Road ''footpath'' Hedge, a haven for birds for many years before the farmer grubbed it out, is in process of being replanted. Deo Gratias and thanks also to Bolton Council, who I believe, enforced this.
