RE: mistle thrush diary

mon tues, over the weekend the old nest has dissapeared totally and the lamp post is now a pristine bare metal shelf.unfortunalty the birds seem to have abandoned the area.I suspect a a human hand was involved in the nest clearing operation and has scared the birds from the site, will await developments.

hi all, been watchin on and off all day and am sure they are using a different site
this year(last years was in clear view and i could see the chicks being  fed)both birds were present this am,later the male was on various lookout spots swooping down to chastise any magpies that appeared.at dinner  both birds flew towards the local park area and returned empty beaked,so my best guess
is that the pair have eggs and i,ll have to wait till the food flights start to spot the nest.

I am glad to say for perhaps for the first time in a long time Mistle thrushes are attempting to breed near my house. The other day I had the best view ever (prolonged within 5ft) of a Mistle collecting nest material on my front lawn. Today a pair could be seen and heard chasing each other.

Geoff,
I have been getting Mistle Thrushes in my garden all afternoon today, busy collecting food and then flying off with it .There must be a nest with young very close to my house. They do lay their eggs quite early compared with other birds and I remember finding a nest containing3 youngin the first week of March about 10 years ago.Collared Doves are also early nest buiiders and I watched a pair quite happily building a nest on New years day this year on Partington Lane in Swinton. The nest was blown down in the severe winds later that month.

Geoff – Was it an adult that was carrying the ‘‘Poo’’?  It may be a faecal sac that the young produce and the adult’s kindly deposit. So they may already have young in a different nest elsewhere. Cheers Kane

hi all, firstly a brief history of the site, 05 reported 4 fledged ,06 observed by me
but not dated(sorry) one brood of 3 and one brood of 4 all fledged then led off to nursery area?.Anyway  they have been around since feb and cleaned out the old nest (which had collected plastic streamers and a plant) last weekend.
i have been waiting for the female to start sitting but fear i may have been misled .this morning one of them appeared to be carrying some poo,has anyone else got mistle thrushes and what are they up to please.

cheers geoff
