RE: GREY SQUIRELLS BORSDANE

Hi Gary, Grey squirrels do cause quite a few problems to birdlife one that springs to mind is that they obviously eat young birds/eggs. They also can cause problems to Nest Box projects, as Grey squirrels are renowned for setting up home in Tawny Owl boxes! And I am sure you may have read that the squirrels will go to extraordinary lengths to take young/eggs from the nest boxes of Blue, Great tit and Robin etc.  In Atherton Woods we have a co-ordinated cull each year to try and keep the population down!  Cheers Kane

I have noticed the squirell population increasing considerably over the past couple of years in Borsdane Wood .I'm no expert on these squirell but was wandering if anyone else new, what effect they have on the birdlife? Only a couple of years ago it was hard to spot a squirell, now they are everywhere.
On the other hand they may attract more raptors the owls would probably find these critters a treat for a tasty meal.Elvis prefered them deep fried.
