I saw Chris's message, so wasn't expecting the Scoter - I was looking for the year's first butterflies really (Brimstone and Comma yesterday, Tortoiseshell today). My first Chiffchaff of the year in the trees between the water and the Metro line.
Broad Ees Dole
6 Heron 2 Little Grebe 1 Lapwing Mallards, Moorhens and Coots.
Cheers for the heads up on the Common Scoter, got down at about 5:40pm and watched it for about 15 minutes. A lifer for me...figured a quick drive to Sale WP would be better than a trip to the sea to tick it off!
The cracking drake Common Scoter was showing well when I left at 2.45pm. By far the best views I've ever had of a Common Scoter and was regularly coming close up to within 10-15 yards of the wooden decking infront of Deckers.
Other birds of note... - lots of Coot - 1 Great Crested Grebe - Lesser Black-backed Gull at least 4 adults - Common Gull 10+ adults - lots of Black-headed Gulls
Very brief visit due to us being on our way for a cycle along the Dee. Common Scoter at 1:05 near the middle of the lake, just of the plylon. Viewed from decker. Will add photos later.

Very late post for thursday Highlights: 1 herring gull 3 common gulls 1 male goosander 5 great crested grebes 1 dead black headed gull 1 female fingfisher
Of note... 1 adult Lesser Black-backed Gull 150+ Black-headed Gulls 10+ Common Gulls 2 Cormorant 1 Great Crested Grebe 1 Grey Wagtail over ...and only 1 Herring Gull that I could see with a cleanish white head, it stood out amongst the other Gulls. Think it's a 3rd winter but I'm by no means certain.

Nothing unusual.

large amount of gulls on the western side of the WP. (most i've ever seen) Didn't have long enough to sift though them all, mainly BH gulls (winter and breeding plumage), certainly a few GBB's too amongst other stuff.
Great crested grebe's also 1 or 2 coming in to breeding plumage
On the main lake of note... - Great Crested Grebe 14 - Coot 30-40 - Pied Wagtail 2 - Herring Gull 1 adult - Lesser Black-backed Gull 1 adult - Common Gull 20+ - Black-headed Gull 150-200 maybe more - Cormorant 2 ... 1 of which was in breeding plumage showing a lot of facial white but too far away to get a proper look at the Gular angle to establish race.
Some of the Common Gulls and a juvenile large Gull were harassing the Black-headed's by chasing them and forcing them to drop food, and dive bombing others that were sat on the lake. Nice to see 2C19 the Black-headed Gull.
Broad Ees Dole 3:00 - 3:30 Viewing from the hide it was very quiet with only a few duck and no Little Grebe today; 1 x snipe 2 x teal Moorhen 1x heron Smaller pool more productive; 5 x snipe 1 x kingfisher (present throughout on perch at back of the pool) 1 x water rail But the trip got better on the way home picking up short eared owl on Chorlton Ees (see separate thread)
6 teal 6 moorhen 1 water rail (great views) 3 little grebe 6 snipe 1 grey heron 1 kingfisher
The snipe, water rail, teal, heron and kingfisher were all around the same 15 or so feet of each other, on the left hand side of the smaller pool; had a lovely 20 or so minutes watching that little area.
Nice sized mixed flock around the wooded areas opposite the viewing areas, seen from the river bank path, consisting of goldcrest, blue tit, great tit and long-tailed tit.
