How sad to hear this news, its about time there was some restriction on the jet skis they think they own the water. How many times have we seen them racing around without regards for anything, how many walks have been ruined by them ,it comes as no surprise really
I heard some late news today that the adult male and a cygnet Mute Swan were killed by a jet ski recently. The M.E.N. reports the incident as occurring on Tuesday 30th July. Apparently the police are inviolved.
A mid-day visit to a very quiet Broad Ees Dole. 1 Common Sandpiper 8 Heron 3 Shoveller 2 Little Grebe 2 Mallards
Also 1 Mink in inflow channel behind Jackson's Boat
Sad to see the "improvement" works to the riverbank between Barfoot Bridge and Jackson's Boat. No doubt sand martin nesting holes will have been obliterated. Perhaps time for a mink proof artificial nesting bank to be built.
8/6/10 Cormorant in the mersey on the way in from Jacksons Boat Did 1 lap and sat in the hide for 5 mins 2 GC Grebe maybe 4 unless I saw the same 2 twice Pair of Mute swans with 6 cygnets Reed warbler singing next to the hide lakeside Moorhen with 1 chick feeding on the grass at the hide
BROAD Ees Dole 4 Grey Heron all looked like Juvs dull colours 1 Dabchick (Little Grebe) 1 Lapwing

2 Great Crested Grebe, a few Moorhens and Coots, 1 Mute Swan, lots of Mallards and lots of Canadas on the main lake. 3 feral Muscovy Ducks on the island. 3 Grey Herons flying over in quick succession. An assortment of Canadas, Mallards and motley feral/domestic ducks (some of the latter nearly as big as the Canadas, and easily able to bully/chase them off!) by the watersports centre.
Various small passerines around, only Great Tit, Dunnock and Robin identified. Probably other tits and some finches too.
brief visit this pm on and around the lake plenty of bh gull 3 lbb 2 commom gull single gc grebe 4 mute swan plenty of long tail tits 1 willow tit 5 cormorant
Willow Tit still present by the vc and very vocal this morning. Sightings pretty much as per my last visit but no Goosanders or Lesser Black-backed Gulls today. 4 Lapwings on Broad Ees Dole looked to be getting settled in.
2 Mute Swan, 2 singing Song Thrush, 1 singing Chaffinch - first one I have heard this year, 1 Siskin over and calling, 55+ Coot, 1 Fieldfare, 1 Little Grebe, 11 resting Cormorants - split between 2 pylon roosts, c25 Goldfinch feeding on alder cones, 2 Grey Wagtails, 1 Jay
Broad Ees Dole.
1 male Gadwall, 1 male Shoveler, 3 Teal (2 males) plus other unseen calling Teal, 1 Grey Heron, A flock of 7, probably 8 Bullfinch, c25 Fieldfare,
Sadly I also saw a Mink in full view for approx. 1 minute, only 20 yards or so away and right in front of the Lakeside Hide at Broad Ees Dole at 8.20 this morning.
Cheers,
Bill.

Ian , the staff at the visitors centre is a good start, as for a eastern hide, they need a fireproof one, so you will just have to take cover under a brolly.
1 Common Sandpiper 2 probably 3 Kingfishers very active at 9.30am 7 Coots 3 Little Grebes 12 Lapwing at least 9 House Martins with the Swallows
If anyone knows who to contact within Trafford MBC to get the vegetation cut back in front of the hide, litter cleared etc please send me a pm. Perhaps a viewing screen on the eastern side of BED could also be installed
