13 x Ring Ouzel between memorial and Green Nook. 1 x Grasshopper Warbler heard approx 200 yds further down the road. Also 1 x Red Grouse and 1 x Curlew
16 Ring Ouzels by Green Nook House this morning off Coal Pit Lane, also a Grasshopper Warbler and Wheatear between Green Nook and Roscoes Tenement Clough.
At 1500hrs the Ring Ouzels took flight from the field opposite Green Nook house and flew only 100m northwest to the rear of the new woodland patch.
The number of Ring Ouzels in this flock movement was 14, many coming from over the back of the field and from out of sight.
A brief couple of hours watch from Scout Road this morning saw half a dozen large skeins of Pink-footed Geese W/NW and S/SW coming in from the east East Pennines numbering 1300+ birds.
Burnt Edge :-
Walked from Matchmoor Lane, along the top of the bank, with a quick look in the plantation, and returned along the bottom of Burnt Edge.
Just a single Kestrel and a couple of crows braved the strong NWesterly blowing over the moor. Whilst 3 female Bullfinches sheltered in the plantation and a single Fieldfare flew low across Matchmoor Lane.
Walked along George's Lane from Wilderswood to the Lancs border & back :-
Flock of 20 Fieldfares on the pasture below the kennels.
4 Goldcrests and 2 Bullfinches in the border conifer plantation. 1 vocal Raven seen flying towards the masts.
This morning from the east slope of Winter Hill, 1093 Meadow Pipits S, 10 Skylarks S, 71 Chaffinches S, 52 Goldfinches S, 246 Linnets S, 61 Siskins S, 33 Crossbills S in 4 flocks, 9 Swallows S and 1 calling Dunlin S. Also a flock of Goldfinches at the start of Coal Pit Lane around 400 strong.
