RE: First migrant has arrived, 28th Feb!

On the opposite side of the road to the flooded field, I counted 32 Fieldfare at 16:45 today.  The flood itself was disappointing: just a few Woodpigeon on the surrounding field and three yarellii Pied Wagtails on the edge of the water.

From the roadside I could see another smaller, more distant, body of water, with two Lapwing close by.  I didn't have time to walk across to check it out.

Went for a quick check (whilst out buying mothers day pressies!) but only scored:

2 Oystercatcher
5 Lapwing
3 Mallard
1 Moorhen
2 Black-headed Gull
78 Jackdaw (winterting flock)
12 Magpie
2 Pied Wagtail
2 Greenfinch
2 Goldfinch
1 Robin

The place looked great for an early wheatear/sand martin but no sign just yet and no sign of the Little Ringed Plover (probably that one at Astley!), better luck next time.
Cheers
Henerz

A Little Ringed Plover was at Church Lane Flood, Woodford, today, reports Barry Shaw (former county recorder), with 2 Curlews and 2 Oystercatchers
