Birds at Scotman's Flash this morning included 2 ad Great Black-Backed Gull, Kingfisher, 48 Sand Martin and a singing Cetti's Warbler - actually within gardens!

Notable- Marsh Harrier flying low over Bryn flash (photos), also grey heron and kingfisher. Elsewhere good viewing of Cetti's warbler at Moss Bridge.

72 Goldeneye roosted on Scotman's Flash this evening, where the Shelduck was still present and a white Cockatiel was in trees on the island, c800 Starling roosted at Pearson's Flash

Min 10 Water Rail calling in Bryn Marsh this evening, 2 Cetti's Warbler - 1 singing and 1 calling occasionally in front of viewing screen, 2 Reed Bunting singing, with at least 10 roosting. Buzzard, 2 Raven and Kingfisher flew over. 2 Grey Partridge Park House Fm

Cetti's Warblers singing at Bryn Marsh and Turner's Flash this morning

min 6 Water Rail calling in Bryn Marsh, one of which ran over the frozen reedbed channel in front of the screen

female Sparrowhawk hunting the reedbed at Bryn Marsh and a Woodcock over there

at the Hawkley Hall reedbed feeding station birds included 2 Lesser Redpoll, 1 Willow Tit and 9 Reed Bunting

c2500 Starling circling in the Poolstock area, which seemed to go down at either Westwood or Waddicar's Flash

A third-winter Yellow-Legged Gull spent about five minutes on Scotman's Flash just before 11:00

A Cetti's Warbler showed well at Scotman's. Birds at the Hawkley Reedbed feeding station included 9 Lesser Redpoll, 3 Willow Tit, 1 Bullfinch and 4 Reed Bunting, with 2 Water Rail calling in the reeds

at least 1 Cetti's Warbler at the eastern end of Pearson's Flash today, decent views of one, which seemed to be agitated by a nearby Wren and loosely following it

3 Water Rail calling there, 5 Shoveler, 11 Pochard and 2 Wigeon on the flash itself

Friday 30th: birds at Scotman's and Pearson's Flashes included 3 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Little Grebe, 8 Wigeon, 71 Gadwall, 8 Goldeneye, 2 Kingfisher. 4 Siskin were between Pearson's Flash an Moss Bridge

Bryn Marsh,am visit 8.30 10.30 dragged away from Horrocks Flash but sustained by coffee and a pocketfull of raspberry ripples

heard only,Water rail,Buzzard and Cetti,s
from the balcony coot,moorhen,shoveler,grey heron,sparrowhawk,mallard,great views of a perched kingfisher but the reed beds revealed nothing.

Juvenile Yellow-Legged Gull on Scotman's Flash early pm, flew N at 1335
Also 40+ Lesser Black-Backed Gull including a darvic-ringed bird (probably a Ribble Marshes bird from combination) and an adult Common Gull

Started my day up in Wigan hoping to bag a Garganey reported yesterday. No luck with that, but lots of great birds anyway and really interesting to have a wander down the canal for the first time.
Pearson's Flash
Long-tailed Duck
Cetti's Warbler
Sedge Warbler showing really well singing
Lesser Redpoll over
Reed Warbler

Plenty of Blackcaps and Whitethroats. Also plenty of House Martins amongst the Swallows and Sand Martins

Horrocks Flash
Kingfisher just before the railway bridge
Common Tern 4 amongst many Black-headed Gull
Lesser Redpoll really close to me on the towpath
Willow Tit in the same tree

I headed on to Lightshaw Flash, posted on that thread

Morning mooch,

Easily 1000+ Sand Martin this morning some coming flying past at head height absolutely awesome.
3 Cetti's Warbler all heard only
A Few Swallow and House Martin
Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler vocal
2 Common Sandpiper flew up canal
1 Kingfisher

We went for a walk in the bright sun and warmth at Wigan Flashes. The highlights were several pairs of Great Crested Grebes, looking as if they were about to mate, then three buzzards overhead, and three house martins flying North.

Very windy so limited sightings but a female stonchat showing well, continually patrolling the reed bed alongside the canal path of Pearson's (between North end corner and the bench).
Seen at 11am and still there when revisited at 2pm.
