RE: Short-eared Owl at Ashworth Moor Resr 27/01

One was seen to the south of Knowl Hill hunting in fields before flying off north. the fields in which they were usually seen (to the south of the res) are now very muddy due to cattle being there - this has also brought hundreds of crows and jackdaws, this is probably the reason they have not been seen there.

Thanks Dave and Ian for the further info. Unfortunately Ian Woosey and myself had no joy this evening, 57 GBB Gulls were the best we could do. There was also a possible adult Yellow-legged Gull but it came in too late and was too distant to say for certain.

Hi Ian/Tom

the SEO was late on 16:45 hunting in fields to the east of the Res. SEO's were seen frequently in spring and autumn last year and the last sighting was around the 14th Nov. They are usually seen later on in the day to the south of the res, but the lack of any good weather up there this year has meant none have been seen - in fact we all thought they had moved away from the area for the winter - will keep you posted if i see it again -  apart from that and the gulls nothing to write home about up there.

Regards

Dave

I got a text message off him just before 5 o'clock, which doesn't mean to say it was about this time he saw the bird but I get the impression it was late on . I'll find out if I can, although there's a chance he may read this.......................... you out there Dave

Hi Ian,

Do you know what time he had it?

Cheers,

Tom

A late call I know but I couldn't get to a computer yesterday (not necessarily a bad thing ). Dave Winnard had a Short-eared Owl hunting in fields to the east of Ashworth Moor Reservoir yesterday (info via Dave himself).
