Hi All I recently had a bird fly into my window and have 'rescued' it from the local feline population. A photo can be found at: http://www.algaeholics.talktalk.net/Birdy.jpg I'm guessing this is a Dipper - from my VERY limited experience. I was thinking of keeping it a few days in the warmth and then...
I am working on a website on an area of countryside and looking to encourage the public to submit wildlife records of all species not just birds. But principally birds. I am struggling to fathom it out and I wonder if you could point me in the right directon. There is a complication in that some of the area...

hi I am in the Peterhead area. I have around 30 waxwings which come to my garden and feast on sliced apples. I put this food out on a regular basis. Should I go on feeding-not sure- when they are due to fly back to native country.
On my way to carnforth we stopped off for a McDonald's breakfast where we saw 40+ Waxwing in the tree near the hotel, they were feeding on a bush behind McDonald's.

Why do I allow myself to be seduced by proprietary bird seed? 'All year round', 'No mess', etc. If I put out sunflower hearts or niger (nyger? nyjer?) seed my feeders are alive with action but once I change to other varieties the garden becomes a bird-free zone. What's your experience?
I wonder if anyone has any recent information about this site high up on the moorland above Rochdale, and previously a good site for Twite. Up to 2009 there were quite a lot of entries on the forum related to this site and a twite feeding station at Light Hazzles Reservoir. There seem to have been no entri...
Firstly, apologies if you have read a similar thread to this on another birding forum - I'm now interested in the 'local' view. Secondly, if you are actually deaf, rather than just tone deaf, may I apologize as well - my 'issues' are minor compared to yours. Anyway, I was walking the dog this morning &am...

I have personally funded this forum since I started it, which is over six years now. I have watched it grow and grow in popularity and cannot quite believe just how well used it has become. Of course I am very glad about this (no one wants a forum no one looks at do they!) but I've somewhat become a victim of m...
Well there were the three Little Gulls chasing the ferry, a few miles off Zeebrugge - looking for all the world, at first glance in the early morning light, like overgrown waders. Then there was the White Stork stood, incongruously, on a shop forecourt. at first we thought it was a fibreglass model, bu...
