I'm not an expert by any means on moths but I agree with Bernard, definitely Six-spot Burnet, in fact just checked photos I took to make sure . Noticed Common Spotted Orchid in flower yesterday also hundreds of Meadow Brown Butterfly.

3 six spot burnet moths

Six spot burnets are hatching at present, but there have been lots of Cinnabar moths flying over the past month, which look similar, if more red, in flight. Their black and yellow larvae will be appearing on ragwort over the next few weeks. I wondered whether your sighting from last week may have been of a Cinnabar?

late dog walk, 3 bats i think pipistrelle, over path near diggle flash.

David the moths last week definitely had spots, as kids we always called them ladybird moths, i would say they were definitely burnets.

Visit this WE found apart from the birds already listed Broad Leaved Everlasting Pea. (Rare in GM more common on the coast it also exists elsewhere in Wigan.) This area is enormous and offers huge potential for all sorts of wildlife and is perhaps overlooked by none local observers. Clearly one for more vist
