Litltle Owl seen Saturday lunchtime on Shiloh Road, halfway between Moor End Road and Hollinsmoor Road down to Rowarth itself

Sun 7th March 10 am

Skylark flock (19+) landed in fields near Shiloh Road.

Curlews in couples calling and circling ...no flocks seen this weekend, however a 50+ flock landed in fields near the Little Mill last weekend.

Fieldfare and Redwing still around, loafing in trees near Rowarth village.

One of the shots of a Male Crossbill from this afternoon. Plantation nearest to Coombs Tor was the most productive for the Crossbill.

6th March between 4.15-5.30 pm Cown Edge: 5+ Crossbill, 20 Siskin, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 1 Raven, Curlew.

7.30 pm  -  15.04.19  - At least 66 Curlew feeding in a boggy field next to the road to the Little Mill - a small, additional flock flew off to neighbouring fields so unable to count all of them.

Nice sight- probably a migrating party calling in to feed.

Final BTO survey completed this morning in this lovely area from 5.20-9.45

At least 1 reeling Grasshopper Warbler, up to 7 Curlew (minimum 3), 3 Reed Bunting, 4 Skylark, 7 Meadow Pipit, Common Whitethroat, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Grey Wagtail, Bullfinch, 3 Blackcap, 8 Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 12 House Martin, many Swallow and Swift, 6 Linnet, 4 Stock Dove, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker.

6+ Curlew, Green Woodpecker, 2 Lapwing( just outside tetrad), 6 Skylark, Treecreeper, 4 Linnet, 2 Meadow Pipit, Common Buzzard, 6 Blackcap, Bullfinch, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Whitethroat, 12 Willow Warbler, 2 Red Legged Partridge, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 17 Swallow, 4 House Martin, 5 Swift, 7 Lesser Black Backed Gull, Reed Bunting, Grey Wagtail.

This mornings highlights from 9-12:

5 Curlew, Mandarin with young, Whitethroat, Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 20+ Willow Warbler, Kestrel, Buzzard, 2 Stock Dove, Grey Wagtail, Reed Bunting, 6 Skylark, House Martin, 15 Swallow.

Another walk around the area this morning. Highlights were Common Swift, 6 Curlew, 7 Lapwing, Common Whitethroat, 6 Skylark, 6 Wheatear and Common Buzzard.

Did a quick tour of an area I'm unfamiliar with today from 1.30-3.15 in preparation for my BTO upland wader survey. 

8 Curlew around fields leading up from Little Mill pub, 4 Lapwing, 4 Meadow Pipit, 2 Kestrel and 2 Chiffchaff were the highlights. Looking forward to exploring the wider area in due course.

1 Swallow flew over towards Chisworth 19.00hrs

50+ Fieldfare feeding in muddy field near Childrens Inn.

18 Fieldfare in fields near the Little Mill tonight... all puzzled why it was so warm maybe?

One male Sparrowhawk hunting low (at dusk) over a sedge grass field and dropping into the grass, ostensibly for Snipe. These birds were flushed but chased unsuccessfully.
At least 25 birds were flushed and they all fled to neighbouring fields.

signs of spring - 1 male blackcap,6 willow warblers,1 chiffchaff.

residents included reed bunting,goldcrest,great spotted woodpecker,buzzard,kestrel and a tawny owl calling in the morning sun at 9.45am

winter visitors still around were a flock of 20+ fieldfare.

Golden plover flock comprised over 90 individuals on saturday (17th March).
(in muddy field off bridleway leading to new mills golf club).
There were at least 16 lapwing displaying in neighbouring fields.
One curlew and a skylark amongst the golden plover.

two weasels were near the moorfield arms fighting in grassy field,one of the fighting pair fled off down shiloh road heading towards bogguard road.
curlew calling near rowarth and 9 meadow pipit flying over fields on shiloh road.

the flock of golden plover (50+) were still in the muddy field near bogguard road with the lapwing flock and a single curlew on saturday (10th march)

7 Golden Plovers (in the field right behind Coombes Edge)

Lapwings in the Usual field on the left as you turn for the Little Mill Inn. Skylarks in this and the field opposite, plus Curlew flying over and landing. Probably flew over GM part of Mellor.
