This topic area is as per subject box.  Please post to this topic with sightings in this area.

This is important, to gain seasonal and occupational change with actual species migrating & resident in this area.

Development eco-reports are; as we know, often 'snap shot' compiled during the least opportune times.

Historically I've noted 53 species in this area.  Not that many, but I haven't looked too hard.

To recap recent sighting.

11th Sept 11:35am Two Raven on St Bart's Church Tower (pictured), 6 Jackdaw (complaining), 12 Starling.

Departed after about 10mins, to be spotted later over the back of Horwich/Rivington.  As report on this site.

Returned to the tower 12th Sept from the SW for a short time then departed south towards Daisy Hill.

Recent back yard, St Bart's.

25th Sept

37 (1 skein) Pink-footed goose 15:04hrs NE-SW flight.  2 other skein followed, count unknown but similar number in each to the first.

28th Sept

2x Coal tit

4x Blue tit

2x Great tit

6x Sparrow

8x Starling

2x Woodpigeon (more common visitor now Bowlands Hey is being built on)

1x Collared dove

3x Mistle thrush

30th Sept.  Back Yard/Church Yard

2x Coal Tit

3x Blue tit

2x Great tit

2x Dunnock

3x Blackbird (2x M, 1 F)

8x House sparrow

1x Robin

Took my wife's dog (a toy poodle) for a walk along Hall Lee Bank Park. I didn't take my bins cry.gif but even so I did manage to see some nice birds smile.gif. (Note to self, even if I'm on dog walking duty I must take bins!)

Anyway, aong the woodland path: heard a wren scolding something, 3 great tits, 4 blue tits, 4 robins, 2 magpies, 1 mistle thrush, 1 crow, 4 blackbird, 2 collard dove, 2 wood pigeon, 1 chaffinch and 2 treecreepers. I don't want to sound like a stringer but I saw something small and dark with a hint of white (or paleness) on its breast nip from the bank of the stream darting into some undergrowth - could it be a dipper? I also heard a great deal of song that I'm just not able to identify at the moment. Better luck next time, especially with bins!

In the fields to east of Bellhouses Lodge: 2 mute swans and 2 coots. There was nothing on the lodge as there was a bunch of workmen clearing scrub with strimmers.

27th February.

Am.

1 Buzzard on lamp post on Snydale Way early am, nr Chequerbent roundabout.

Hall Lee Bank Park - 1 Nuthatch, 2 female Great Spotted Woodpeckers chasing each other around, 1 Jay and 3 Bullfinch. Most of the expected other woodland birds...except Treecreeper, which I couldn't find. cry.gif

2 different pairs of Mute Swan on ponds nearby.

Fields just to the east of the woodland held a mixed feeding flock of c210 birds - roughly c110 Fieldfare, c60 Starling and c40 Redwing. The presence of a female Sparrowhawk was most probably the reason why they were so unsettled and flighty.nod.gif

Cheers,

Bill.

Regarding the council, you may wish to contact Mrs Gill Williams who lives off Wearish Lane, is on the council and who has shown an interest in conservation and in this particular area.
