RE: County garden birds

In my Harwood, Bolton garden, I put an old nesting box among my conifers earlier this year and forgot about it.  Today I was in the garden and noticed that a pair of coal tits are using it and you could hear young inside.

Had a fledgling Dunnock in the garden on Monday.

The adults now collecting nesting material again, along with

6 Greenfinch

1 Woodpigeon and

1 Starling all doing the same at once.

I've dug a flower border over and its full of root fibre, they all seem to love it, along with the dog hair.

Early start to the breeding season with newly fledged robin and great tit smile Unfortunately another robins nest must have been predated as they have switched back from carrying food to nesting material

I've just watched an adult Magpie kill an adult female Blackbird in my neighbours garden, in Davyhulme. I missed it catching it but was alerted due to the commotion from the male Blackbird. It continually dive bombed the Magpie but to no avail. The Magpie made repeated stabbing attacks to the female Blackbirds head whilst holding it down with its feet. I'm hoping its not the female from the breeding pair that have been recently nest building in one of my shrubs.

I threw the remains of a chicken carcase on the lawn today and was soon rewarded with a garden tick.
4 adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls soon landed and quickly dispatched it.
Caused panic amongst the finches on the feeders nearby!

1 male reed bunting in my Radcliffe garden at 3pm. The last time one visited me was at least 7 or 8 years ago. Also to note; our robins are feeding chicks already! First noticed 3 or 4 days ago.
