Hi John, it's either Watson St or Lowe St, you will see the sign for Broomstairs Nurseries, drive up to near the entrance of the little garden centre / nurseries and park up. Go through the 2 gates and it was in the field on the left with some Canada Geese. It was quite a distance out but Iv got a few shots of it if you want to private message your email address.

Hiya Vicky, the Jet Amber Fields tend to be posted on the "River Tame Dukinfield Sewarge works to Ivy Cottages. Haughton Green" thread ....... but this is a really long stretch of river ......... so I use the Haughton Dale thread for downstream of Broomstair Bridge through to Reddish which ties in with the official site titles.

Roger.

Sorry not sure if my posts are in the right place because i don't think the area i cover is all haughton dale. not sure where else to post it though. yesterday 2 siskin feeding on the footpath behind riverside care home, Denton. 2 flocks of redwing in jet amber fields, 2 m + 1 f Mandarin.

A couple of hours in the dale this morning with good company.

Birds of note:

3 goosander, pair of bullfinch, several pair of Mandarin flying over, flock of redwing, heron devouring a frog again, plus usuals.

Wednesday 6th March. 14.00 - 16.30 hrs.

R, Tame. Mill Lane to Apethorn Lane.

Cold and windy ....... passerines conspicuous by their absence.

15 Teal (4 pairs and 7 single drakes.
4 pairs Mallard.
1 Goosander (red-head).
1 Jay.
1 Grey Wagtail.
1 Nuthatch.
Bullfinch (think pair) heard but not seen.

No sign of pollution, thankfully. Saying this, there were a few workmen on the opposite bank (upstream of the iron bridge) backfilling on some work they had been doing to a culvert exit. Looked like it had been a bit of a major operation judging by some of the machinery they had winched back up the the hill.

Roger.

Most definitely. I wanted to report it but wasn't sure where best to report it. i took quite a few pictures of it. It was a sad sight. If you manage to get down tomorrow to check it out that would be great. if you walk from mill lane towards gee cross it was just before walking under the iron bridge. there is a steep embankment where there's lots of rubbish dumped at the back of haughton green. I'll give the wardens a call first thing in the morning. thanks for the contact details.

Same species as yesterday minus the Kingfisher and Dipper

In addition today:

3 Buzzard giving a fantastic aerial display above.
1 Sparrowhawk
1 Kestrel
2 Mandarin (m + f) in the river behind Broomstairs garden centre (not seen along this part of the river before)
3 Goldeneye (f)
2 Lesser Black Backed gull on pond in Jet Amber Fields
2 Heron (1 adult + 1 juvenile) I got good video footage of the adult heron 10ft in front (not phased by dog walkers passing). It hunted a frog and then walked up the banking and threw the frog several times onto the ground. It then picked up the frog and walked along the footpath before walking back down the banking. It then washed the frog down with some pond water. Yummy!!
Lots of Treecreeper and Goldcrest about today

The river was coated with oil/petrol today around Haughton Green where the Teal and Little Grebe were fishing. I've never noticed it before but it was particularly noticable today.

Vicky, would you please report the exact location of this pollution to the Tameside Countryside Ranger Service. 0161 330 9613.
This is their main office at Park Bridge ....... hopefully still there after the cut-backs !
Will try and get down there myself some time tomorrow.

Thanks.

Roger.
