Whilst angling I had great pleasure in watching a female Sparrowhawk drop prey for two juveniles who perched in a willow. Obviously only one was successful in catching the meal.
Mum was to and fro with food but only one drop witnessed another magic moment.
A female spotted flycatcher just outside Swettenham village this afternoon. Just near a ford that runs over the road. I had identified this spot as a good spot for a flycatcher and when i returned to look, it was the first bird i saw! I suspect there may be more than just one here, but it was all i saw this evening around 8.45-9.10pm.
Oldham birders trip today, with remote control from Riggers.

Inner Marsh farm- whiskered tern showing very nicely in front of the hide 2 drake garganey 2 drake wigeon 1 common tern 1 common sandpiper 12 avocet with 4 newly-hatched chicks 80+ black-tailed godwit 1 first-summer Med. gull soliciting food from 2nd-summer Med gull (typical teenager!)
Then home the quick way via Formby moss for Red-backed shrike, quail & a tubercular cuckoo!
