RE: AUDENSHAW RESERVOIRS

from c 8.45 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

6 adult little gulls (one with a slightly incomplete hood) arrived at 9.10. A while later, I noticed a bird in the same area with a 'W' shape wing pattern. Unfortunately, I attributed this to kittiwake, but having doubts I checked properly when I got home and saw that it was really a 1st winter little gull. Definitely no trace of a hood forming, so not 2nd summer yet.

A female peregrine decided to dine out on the grass bank of No. 3 resulting in the grizzly image below! No wonder there has been a lack of passerines recently (see Friday).

3 + 1 curlew through was all else of real note.

Yesterday evening, 6-7pm. Pretty quiet, the sky was glorious though.

A few to note.

- x6 Goldeneye

- x2 Goosander (females)

- x2 Rock pipit (Not 100% sure they weren't meadow pipit due to fleeting view, but they were bigger, greyer and spent lots of time on the rocks)

- x1 Cormorant

- x2 Canada goose

And the usual host of gulls, from which I could not pick out any unusual birds.

First time up there in the evening. I notice most records are from morning; is that a better time typically?

The Green Sandpiper has made it through the cold snap and 2 Dunlin and 3 Snipe were present on no 1.

Only thing that was out of the recent norm was a curlew which came in, landed on one of the islands for a couple of minutes, then departed east calling. A nice portent of Spring (weather not withstanding).
