Checked out the area on Thursday 4th June late evening and the GSW was very busy drumming and calling outside its nest in the tree trunk, trying to tempt the sprogs out.
Checked out the site again Friday evening and all was quite so I think during the day juniors fledged??
Fledgeling blue tits where in the trees around the area being fed by adults. Chaffinches M & F around, no Flycatchers seen.

Hi Gary,

I think Lady Amherst's Pheasant is now considered extinct in Britain (or at least no sustainable feral population) so this might be worth keeping an eye on to see if there is a small colony or if it's a single garden escape.

had to confirm from yesterday i also saw a lady amherst pheasant which i hadnt a clue what it was. i was thinking albino pheasant until i watched my bird dvd of europe apparently introduced from asia into this country ,a feral tick for mebiggrin.gif

Good days birding today many family parties, nuthatch,tree creeper,blue great and long tailed tits and grey wagtails.

spotted flycatcher was the pick of the birds today along with a little ringed plover,stonechat,reed bunting ,bullfinch,grey heron and a cuckoo being chased by a willow warbler. Also great spotted woodpecker,treecreeper,nuthatch,redpol,curlew,great crested grebe,oystercatchers,pied wagtails and all the usuals.

later visit than usual as we went to martin mere in the morning. sampled a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake from the cricket club which was very nice.
birds included
linnets,redpol,meadow pipits,willow warblers,nuthatch,mistle thrush,jay,grey wagtail and all the usual stuff.

I didn't bother reporting GC Grebe, Cormorant, Lapwing, Linnet, Skylark, Curlew etc. as I presume they are all common there.

me and Vernon was up there saturday afternoon we got the buzzards ,ravens and kestrel, also worth mentioning was a single fieldfare,2 mistle thrush and a couple of great spotted woodpeckers and one green woodpecker calling.biggrin.gif

biggrin.gifbrilliant weather and finally got the hobby a first for me at this site. biggrin.gif
also 2 juv kestrel and 1 peregrine.
found a good flock of redpol 20+ hiding in the trees not surprising with all the raptors about.
several willow warblers,4 stonechat,1 wheatear and 1 greywag.
loads of swallows wizzing about over the hills.

just when i was about to give up hope of seeing a redstart what happens i see 4 ,two males and 2 females lifers for mebiggrin.gifand stunning birds to watch.
also greenwoodpecker,great spotted woodpecker,grey wagtails,several redpols,garden warbler in its usual spot,spotted flycatcher,tree creeper,nuthatch,willow warblers and raptors kestrel and buzzard.also loads of swift,swallows and housemartins.went slightly of the beeten track and paid for it by going up to my knees in wet muddy sh_t.furious.gifstill who cares im on 189 total for this countrybiggrin.gif
still a chance of a hobby i hope with all these hirundines about.

sorry for the late post yesterday had a great day finally caught up with target species spotted flycatcherbiggrin.giflifer and bagged a suprise pied flycatcher biggrin.giflifer.also green woodpecker and the juv and one parent showing very well up by the waterfall.those garden warblers are driving me nuts you can be 6ft away and still cant see themfurious.gif.meadow pipits everywhere but failed on the tree pipetcry.gifwho cares gives me a reason not that i need one to go back to this great place.have been told there are also redstart about which would be another lifer for mebiggrin.gif

I was up there on fri afternoon, never gone further than the north end of Anglezarke before.Saw 3 Spotted Flycatchers near watermans cottage. Took the path from the road towards White Coppice. It's a great area loads of birds. I hadn't much time so had to turn back before i got to the area where the Tree pipits are. Spoke to Carol who posts on the Chorley site who said there were Pied Flycatchers and Redstart in the area. I'll have to go again when i've got more time.

Try this for a walk - Anglezarke Reservoir to Wheelton Plantation via Whiie Coppice. Today (1/6) 2 Ravens, Buzzard (upto 4 recently) Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 4 Tree Pipits, Pied Flycatcher, Wood, 2 Garden and lots of Willow Warblers, Curlew, Swift, Cuckoo, Blackcap (many), Stonechat, Chiffchaff, Oystercatcher, Linnet, Redpoll, Reed Bunting, Meadow Pipits galore, Trecreeper, Bullfinch, Skylark, Grey Wagtail, Spotted Flycatchers,Tufted Duck, Little ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper and many more. Hope Ste Astley saw the Tree Pipits!
