Highlights from a morning visit:

Peregrine eating prey, probably a feral pigeon, on one of the power pylons.

Sparrowhawk.

Kestrel.

10 Gadwall on Withins and a Stonechat nearby- my first site record.

2 Kingfisher, one below the pump house and one on the river.

Mixed flock of c20 Redwing, 6 Fieldfare and 4 Mistle Thrush in the fields by Crowtrees farm.

Willow Tit and 2 Lesser Redpoll on the feeders.

This morning before and during the snow

And then my feet went from under me on a frozen puddle hidden by the snow very nearly gained composure but ended up flat on my backside

Thought I would drop in and look at the gull roost this afternoon- only to find that there wasn't one!

In the pre-roost, there were 8 Great Black Back, 3 Lesser Black Back, 38 Herring and 3 Black Headed Gulls, but they all flew off around sunset!

The only other birds of note were 10 Goosander, 4 Goldeneye and a single Pink Footed Goose with the Canada Geese.

quick check after work 15:10-15:45pm
1 Willow Tit at the feeders.
1 Goldeneye.
8 Great Black Backed gulls 6 adult 2 first winter.
4 Lesser Black backed Gulls.
Good number of Herring Gulls with 14+ argentatus and 2 that stood out with clean heads making me think Yellow legged gulls but not 100% So going with Herring Gulls. record shots attached.

There were 3 lesser redpolls during the afternoon a male and 2 fem/imms

2 different Spaarowhawks a smaller imm and larger female

Bullfinch pairs visiting feeders with many more in area across stream

Lots of greenfinches and more ? chaffinches than recently

Steve, ref my post on Redgate Recycling thread yesterday...Great Black-backed Gulls. I had 4 adults and a group of around 5/6 younger individuals, not to mention 1 at Smithfield Market. Must've been a good fall overnight biggrin

Cracking morning at Elton ... mainly watching from the pump house

Snow Bunting - S/SW it was calling coming towards me but didn't twig what it was until it called right over head .. bird was then picked up heading away over old hall farm

Adding to ians sightings, 1 skylark, 2 common gull, juvenile lesser black backed gull with the 3 juvenile herring gulls, also a water rail heard close and a pheasant male near old Hall Farm. Plenty of moorhens sunning themselves along the canal too- at least a dozen! Ta!

A cracking morning of migration ... a watch from the pump house with Brian Fielding and Ian Campbell produced

19+ Whooper Swan (10 SE, 8 east and a further group heard but couldn't be picked up)
3225 (approx) Pink-footed Geese east in 15 skeins and 120 west
5 Goosander south and 3 west
258 Woodpigeon south
Stock Dove south
11 Meadow pipit south
321 Redwing south
63 Fieldfare west
1212 Starling west
Brambling north
8 Siskin north
Redpoll south
21 Rook south

And the most impressive numbers of Chaffinch moving north in large flocks which I have never witnessed before with 615 N/NW and 50 south

Teal 16 on margins opposite sailing club at dawn in fog
Snipe 6 on point opposite club in fog

Siskin several over calling

Coal Tit visiting fat balls

At least mf Bullfinches at feeders but many calling in area across the stream from car park
