just to let you know that this forum does indeed cover Bolton, atleast as far as the Greater Manchester boundry is to the north, so we certainly don't cover Belmont reservoir for instance. Hope this helps.

Ive seen Chorley Naturalists also have just started a forum so these are springing up all over . Would it be a good idea to have one for Bolton or is Bolton covered by this forum

I think the forum is an excellent idea. So much so that I've copied it and set up one for recording in the Rossendale area (http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=96940&p=1). If any GM members do any regular birding north of the border I'd urge them to join our forum as well and post any sightings they might have. In turn I've urged Rossendale people to post their GM sightings here.
In setting up the Rossendale forum I was also influenced by the East Lancashire forum (http://www.eastlancsbirding.co.uk/forum/), and I've included separate forums for Dragonflies and Butterflies, two groups ROC members are also keen on, and a General forum for other discussion topics. I'd like additional forums on this board if possible, at least next year when insects become active again.
It might be useful to have forums for some of the key sites - Audenshaw etc in order to keep sightings grouped. Otherwise, keep up the good work. It's a great way for birders to keep in touch with the whole area.
I'll add some postings of my own when I see something interesting in north Bolton. It tends to be back garden birds mainly these days!

Hi Ian, I think that the forum will get overloaded (not literally) with threads if we keep posting a new thread every time, and it might become difficult to navigate to find relelvant info. Perhaps a thread for each site? Maybe even for each month? So maybe say "Chorlton WP November 2006"?
That's unless a good bird turns up (eg Shag, White-front or Oriental Plover), in which case a seperate thread just dedicated to that bird? I'm already getting bored of my own YlG updates from Audenshaw!
Regardless, it's still a great resource so thanks for setting it up!

Although personally, I prefer the current appearance of the forum, with all postings on the same page (you get a good look at whats going on in one 'shot'), I would welcome any opinions on other options, after all, this is OUR forum so lets all have our say! Other options could be that certain (perhaps 'busier') sites have their own separate page, so users can look at specific sites they may be interested in, or you may have an idea of your own. If anybody else would like to add an image of their own to their messages (mug shot, favourite bird, whatever!), the process is thus:
1. Click on 'User Details' on the toolbar at the top of all pages on the forum.
2.Click, 'edit profile- click here', on the top right of the page (under the LINKS on the toolbar)
3. Scroll down to AVATAR, and click the drop box on the right for adding your own image. If you would like to use one from your own photos contained on your computer, click the 'upload from your computer' box and another box will appear (otherwise you could use one from the forum gallery, but I haven't a clue what they're like). Here you can browse the files in your computer and select the image you want- but remember the image must be no larger than 100x100 or 32Kb (so a small amount of size reduction and cropping of your specified image may ensue!).
And finally..........
I've also changed that useless counting backwards, days, hours, minutes, last posted thing on messages, in favour of a normal time/date option of when the post was added ('cos I just found how to do it!), much easier for thicko's like me
