I couldn't find a thread for this place. Basically a massive expanse of agricultural land surrounded by old-growth forest in Atherton, just west of Cutacre Country Park. Access is restricted but there are a network of footpaths across the site. I visit this place occasionally but don't give it anywhere near the attention it deserves.
Had a look round the south-eastern area today and saw: -15+ Mandarin -Kingfisher (at least one) -Nuthatches and Treecreepers everywhere -Several Great-Spotted Woodpeckers, including juveniles -Lots of Bullfinch -Good numbers of Stock Dove -Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk -Pheasant
Last winter I also had Woodcock, Snipe, Grey Partridge and Little Grebe. Would be really interested to know if anyone else visits this place or has any records. The woodland has a lot of rhodedendron, but still looks good for some of the rarer woodland specialists in Greater Manchester.
