RECORD (the local biological records centre for Cheshire) and Chester Zoo host a free online presentation on Wednesday 27th October, by Roy Leigh of the Cheshire and Wirral Raptor Study Group. He will cover the raptors of Cheshire and the conservation of them. Registration is needed to join Raptors in Cheshire

The use of Zoom makes it easy to join any regional BTO conferences and see some quality presentations.
The joint BTO and Lincolnshire Bird Club conference takes place tomorrow Sat 30th Jan, presentations include ones on Black-Tailed Godwits and what should be an interesting talk on noc-mig recording.
On Saturday 6th March the BTO conference for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire takes place, including presentations on Goshawks, Short-Eared Owls and (of relevance to our mosslands in GM) the conservation of breeding Curlews in lowland England.
Dr Ian Newton, author of several Poyser and Collins New Naturalist titles, was due to present an online talk about Sparrowhawk research next week, hosted by Birdwatch Ireland Meath Branch. It has been cancelled, but has instead been pre-recorded. The link is advertised as being free to distribute to anyone:

The reason the link doesn't work is because the web link input button on the forum has an out of date prefix http:// If you clear this from the box and input the link directly from your web browser it includes the secure website prefix of https:// and you get this Sparrowhawks - 30 years of Research a talk by Ian Newton
Alternatively you can go directly to the talk on You Tube
Although the link buttons on this page of the forum have been replaced by white boxes so you have to hover over each one to find the Link/URL button
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It looks an interesting talk. I've just started reading Ian Newton's book on Uplands and Birds which is a really compelling read for anyone with an interest in our upland birds and how their current distributions and status has been influenced by Man's activities over the centuries.
