Peregrine (prob male) descending at speed SE at 08.09 would almost certainly have headed into the centre of Chorlton causing chaos amongst the Pigeons Swift 3

Non-birding friend saw a yellowish owl hunting over the fields 18:20 last night (31st March). Short-eared Owl on migration?

Two singing Chiffchaff around the perimeter of the fields were the highlight this afternoon. Sad to see much of the vegetation has been ripped out, but at least works have stopped for now...

A quiet half hour 1:45pm to 2:15pm when even the jays were missing. The only sign of passage migration were a female blackcap joining the tit flock by the stadium and sixteen swallows overhead.

Hobby - 3 sightings involving 2 birds. A bird flew low overhead at 09.15, arriving from the north, then flew over to Longford Park. At 09.25 a bird flew from Longford Park, overhead, heading east into Chorlton. At 11.10 a bird flew straight overhead N > S.

Steve's Garden Warbler still there at c.5 pm - It (presumably it) had moved to the elderberry bushes bordering Longford Road by the tarmac area to the right of the main path in from L Road. With a female Blackcap.

Couple of recent visits, Tuesday 27th.... No signs of any spotted flycatcher or redstart. 1 willow warbler 1 whitethroat 1 ring-necked parakeet 2 jays 5 swallow over Treecreeper heard.
Today 30th... 1 garden warbler in south West corner. 1 Chiffchaff 2 ring-necked parakeet 1 willow warbler & 2 goldcrest with tit flock.

Nice to bump into a spotted flycatcher at Rye Bank Fields this afternoon, hawking from a dead stick in sycamores by the jays' favourite oak trees at the Rye Bank Road end.
Redstart 1 male in NW corner elder (adjacent Longford Park) 09.05, elusive and not seen subsequently (exactly a year to the day since the last Redstart here)

From 3pm today : Spotted flycatcher - 1. Jay - 6. Nuthatch - 1. Mixed flock of birds contained - c15 Great tit , 5 Blue tit,5 Chaffinch , 2 Goldcrest, 4 Long-tail tit and 1 (probable ) Willow warbler. Plus the above mentioned Spotted Flycatcher. House sparrow - 10. Starling - 6. Coal tit - 1. Bullfinch 1. Meadow pipit (over) 1. Last 2 birds spotted by Steve Burke.

It's been a while since I've been here, I've sort of avoided Longford Park for a while 'cos I get cross about what Trafford Council did to the hall. I remember Rye Bank as two big mowed fields, it's become really interestingly overgrown.
No luck with migrants on a lunchtime visit but a very nice mixed tit flock worked its way through the sallows at the Rye Bank Road end. Definitely worth a repeat visit or three.
