I do exactly the same with my own home insurance, with Axa, and have a £10K limit for an individual item (they don't need itemising either though it seems you would ideally need proof of purchase or a valuation from a dealer if not) and £15K for combined items, including outside the home and abroad.

Cheers mate, sounds perfect actually, a £4k per item limit should cover most stuff..... other than a Swaro BTX scope with multiplier & case

I know that this is a really old thread but maybe someone can help. I have a friend who has enquired as to the best insurance company with which to insure her bins and scope. As it is 4 years on from the last post I will ask if anyone has any recent recommendations for this? Either a good company which has the facilities to add such items or as a stand alone insurance just for optics, and needing to cover foreign travel. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Paul, can you keep us posted, as my optics are currently uninsured. I live in a shared house owned by someone else so it's not as straightforward as usual. Cheers.

I had this discussion with my house insurance company to make sure I was covered for a month in New Zealand.
They were very understanding and completely unphased by my request (Swarovski EL bins).
They are clearly used to dealing with all many of unusual requests.

An 'all risks' extention to your household policy is all you need, as long as you choose a suitable level of cover e.g. £2000. Watch the excess that might be imposed though. I've often mused on whether I would say to a would-be mugger, if they asked if they could look through my binoculars (before running off with them), 'I'm sorry, no one else is insured to use them'. Well, it might buy a little time whilst you think of something else!

I replaced my tripod after I shut the car boot on it by accident. It was relatively pain free.

Whilst we all pay for various insurances, by it,s nature not many of use it.It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has made a claim such as "dropped" or "nicked from hide" maybe even "left in error" I have my doubts that Winston would dash out and replace your bin,s without a quibble,but I,ve been wrong before cheers geoff

All my stuff is insured my home insurance policy with items over specific values specified. I did worry slightly when the lady asked me if I intended to use my bins outside the home!!! Still it seems everything is in order on the schedule.
