Hi Keith, Have a look at images of various birds with Avian Pox, this may answer your question. It can range from little blisters to downright unsightly looking lumps. Cheers Rob

Definitely not ticks, the eyes were swollen and red and looked identical.
Like a human stye, was only 3 feet from it.

it's possible that they were ticks. They tend to look more grey coloured from my limited experience, though would maybe look red if they've just fed?

Just sat in the garden and a dunnock landed on the lawn with a sore looking quite large red blister under each eye? Anyone know what this is? I have a regular pair that visit the garden so a little unsure if this is one of those or an interloper.
