Yesterday around sunset, at least 38 Noctule bats flew up the R Douglas corridor from the Crooke area, over Walmsley's Marsh. Many went straight through, presumably towards Wigan Flashes, some lingered and fed over Walmsley's

butterflies today between River Douglas and the railway - at least 38 Peacock, 35 Green-Veined White, 8 Small White, 7 Large White, 9 Meadow Brown, 9 Speckled Wood, 7 Common Blue, 5 Gatekeeper, 2 Comma, 2 Small Copper, also 3 Silver Y. A few dragonflies about - 1 Southern Hawker, 3 Brown Hawker, 1 Common Darter and a Banded Demoiselle on the River Douglas. 12 spikes of Broad-Leaved Helleborine
