Quick hour mooch around Rixtn Clay Pits LNR primarily for butterflies and dragon/damselflies.
5-6 Purple Hairstreaks seen flitting around the canopy of a patch of oak trees but only distant views through binoculars. Im on a roll with this species. Having not seeing them for about 10 years (also at the Clay Pits) I found some yesterday in Dunham. Maybe the warm weather has helped combined with me getting my eye in! Also seen: Comma Small Skipper Meadow Brown Large White Gatekeeper Common Blue - just 1 female. It seems a very poor year for this species. Seen very few this year.
Moths: 6 Spot Burnet Silver Y
Dragonflies and Damselflies: Broad-bodied Chaser Brown Hawker Emerald Damselfly Common Blue Damselfly Blue-tailed Damselfly

Saw an interesting moth on the claypits today but couldn't identify it.looked on the internet and the closest I could find to it was yellow underwing.roughly the same size as a cinnabar moth big bodied with a yellow patch at the base of the wings.the rest of the wings were dark/black with a prominent yellow eye/spot on the forewings.if anybody could help with this that would be great as I am stumped! Cheers Chris.

1 Ermine Stoat out on the Moss....with a lot of faith you can just see my one 'image' of it...taken as the wind and rain swept in...
