I know a grubby bare footed Victorian boy who will do it for a bowl of gruel and a bed for the night.has own sweep.

Gary When I moved into my present house in Swinton I also needed a Chimney sweep. I spent a couple of months trying to find one in the Swinton/Salford area but I had no luck at all. So I decided to do it myself and borrowed a very powerful industrial air blower from a mate. I connected up to my fireplace making sure I had a good seal around the opening and turned it on. I went outside to see if it had worked and saw what looked like a black nuclear mushroom cloud above my house which got bigger and higher as I watched, twigs started to fall from the sky and land in the street and in the adjoining gardens. My neighbours were not impressed especially as their cars now had a layer of soot on. It would probably be better to go to B&Q and get a set of rods and brushes as Steve mentions rather than doing what I did

Hard to find these days, Gary. Bought some brushes from B&Q a few years ago and do it myself - in fact I did our chimney this morning and recovered enough twigs to build a dozen Jackdaws nests!
This isn't helpful, I know. Sweeps tend to be the sort of people who put a small ad in the local paper rather than have a website.

I've currently got problems with blue bottles that appear to be coming from a sealed chimney area. It's probably due to a dead pigeon that's got stuck there. Can anyone recommend a chimney sweep in the Swinton/Salford area who may be able to assist in removing the dead bird.
