Partridge sp. (Grey or Red-legged). Probably unidentifiable from that image but the jizz and reddish tail is conspicuous and indicative of either species. They're more often Greys in that particular area to be honest though.

I have just been looking in the gallery to find a picture for my background when I've come across a mystery bird. In the Raptor section, the latest pictures, the 3rd photo of a Marsh Harrier taken at Chat Moss, What is the 2nd bird taking off from below the green pole with the orange top??, any ideas. Cheers Ian

That did cross my mind but I was put off a bit by the eyestripe. I suppose that could be the light or just a Spotted Flycatcher with a bit of an eyestripe.

Hi All,
I wasn't sure where this should go so I thought here was as good a place as any. I was recently away in Cumbria for a couple of days, and spotted a bit of a mystery bird. It dropped down into a small tree nearby, and continued to flit between 2 or 3 trees for 5 minutes or so before flying out of sight. However we didn't have any bins at the time so the best I have is a zoomed in digital camera photo.
I originally thought Wheatear but it doesn't appear to have any white around the rump so I'm a bit flummoxed.
The photo was taken on Monday 22nd August by the way, sorry about the poor quality - let me know what you think.
