Just beware - it's not just a petition, you are sending a letter and you need to submit, check and submit again!

I've also just signed the petition too. The arrogance of Medway Council, who have total disregard for the quality of life of millions of people who simply enjoy the countryside and its wildlife, is heart stopping. It's like facing the Norman Conquest all over again. If the developers win, no SSSI will be safe.

It's a scandalous decision, and I'd encourage everyone to send a letter via the RSPB site. Apart from the fact that this could set a very dangerous precedent, SSSIs belong to us all as our nationally important sites. I object to some random council deciding what to do with one!

It seems some big shooting syndicate is trying to establish wildfowling "on an industrial scale" (to quote the preamble to the petition) on Burgh Marshes. Local "non-bunny-huggers" (their words) have a petition on Change at:

I think you miss my point Mike. I meant that the rail link does not affect us directly in GM because it runs from London to the West Midlands.......and correct me if I am wrong, but I think I am right in saying that there is already a rail link from and to these areas ? Apart from the environmental issues, why rip up a considerable swathe of the countryside just to shorten a journey time by a matter of minutes, spending millions of tax-payers money in the process ?!
Erm, that's what I meant, Ian

If, like me, you usually use public transport, it does actually affect us directly, but that's no reason not to support the petition.

Stop the HS2 Rail Link
It does not affect us (in GM) directly, but for the wildlife where the link is proposed to pass it would be catastrophic, which is unacceptable in this day and age. Read the link from the Wildlife Trusts website, and to sign an e-petition click on the Stop HS2...
