Access remains the same as expressed in this thread all those years ago Michael, apart from the fact that actually obtaining a permit now seems to be all but impossible and applying for one basically a waste of time.
Clearly, access is possible by some means but discussion of any form of trespass on here (even if everyone seems to do it!) leaves the forum liable for a list of potential issues so I’d rather it wasn’t I’m afraid.

Rather than starting a new thread (even thought there's a gap of 11 years)...
How does one get into Audenshaw?
The obvious possibilities (to me) seem to involve scaling a smart green fence with spiky things on top - there presumably is another way.

For avoidance of doubt, this isn't meant to be a negative comment about anyone in the local birdwatching scene, just a wry comment that whilst we are (rightly) expected to be responsible in terms of not trespassing and accepting that you're not supposed to visit a site to which you have no official access, somehow the world and his dog (literally) can find ways in!
It would be interesting if some mega-rarity turned up and news got out ...

Stephen, permits (and the key that goes with it) for Audenshaw Reservoirs are indeed obtainable from United Utilities. There is however a long waiting list which has quite literally become 'dead mans shoes' in order to get to the top! Don't hold your breath should you apply for one I'm afraid.
Application details can be found on the Manchester Birding website under the 'who's who' page.
I presume there's a whole set of other keys given to dog walkers??

I would imagine that would be United Utilities, but I seem to remember that they weren't easily obtainable.

I went to audenshaw reservoir today but found the fences had all been put back up, a dog walker mentioned that birders can get a key to gain access(audenshaw side). dose any one know where such a key might be obtained from. thanks
