As I was watching my son in the nets at Bowdon Vale CC this evening I saw a falcon flying in from the south. Ther flight and general shape made me think Hobby rather than the usual Kestrel that I would expect to see there, but as it approached it banked a quickly flew out of sight.
I was never closer than abot 200m and had no optics, but the bird appeared to be completely grey below, body, under wing etc.
It'll go down as one that got away, but had I been in the eastern Med I'd have assumed it was male Red-footed Falcon, and in absence of any barring/spotting on the under wing an adult at that. I saw no other detail I'm afraid.
It headed north towards Altrincham and did not show again in the next hour. Hey ho....
