Once again correct Gavin. What a surprise to see you in the winners enclosure yet again! .....are you sure you're not in employment as the Telegraph crossword compiler?

Only a single bird related clue in todays Telegraph crossword.
4 down - Bird with mild ailment taking in hospital (6)
As usual, no prizes for the first correct answer.
Now all I need are the answers for the other 27 clues!!

Good stuff Gavin. I think I'm right in saying that is the second time you have "won" and walked off with all the glory! I might have to consider barring you from future entry, to give the others a chance!

Yet another 2 bird related crossword clues in this Saturdays (15/1) Telegraph Prize Crossword.
19 across - Hick cuddling hot bird (8)
22 across - New place in green for bird (9,6)
Once again, I'm afraid my generosity doesn't stretch to any prizes for the first correct answers to both clues, you'll just have the satisfaction of knowing that you may now be more likely to make into MENSA than DENSA.
Cheers,
Bill.

Before long someone is going to ask that old one - what is the commonest owl in Britain. So I might as well do it.
No, not Tawny. Teet!

Gavin, - yes by my reckoning - Moorhen and Jail - appear to be the correct answers.
Of course, the first species can be found across large areas of Greater Manchester. However, the second species is much more localised in its distribution, with the male of the species favouring the areas around Strangeways and Forest Bank, Pendlebury. Most unusually the female of the second species tends to stay just outside the county boundaries, with an area near Styal in Cheshire being a favoured location!
Cheers,
Bill.

I'd say pigeon and tern. I presume this 'nothing' is inside a cup or trophy of some description. Where do I claim this wonderful prize?

Well done John - you're way too clever for me. It took me almost 2 days to get the answer to the second clue!

Hey everyone,
just in from a pub quiz and thought i would share a question with everyone (though the answer is funnier!)
"What is the smallest bird in Britain?"
Answer - Hummingbird!!!!
Don't think i shall be doing the pub quiz there again! Unless Elton can produce something, but my bet would be Castleshaw
