The record was submitted to BBRC but was rejected.

Following yesterdays cracking Curlew Sandpiper at Elton, Ive been ploughing through my many Elton Bird reports since 1983 (and county bird reports) and found the following previous records of Curlew Sandpiper at the site-
Juv 19th September 1989 (the year after I started watching Elton) Juv 15th-19th September 1993 then nothing until 2 Adults 1st June 2009 Juv 6th September 2009
Making this year a remarkable one already for this species at Elton. Seems strange for a species that has become increasingly harder to see inland in recent years.
Meanwhile the sole record of Spotted Redshank was a brief sighting by Dave Lowe on the 5th August 1991, surely we are long overdue the 2nd one..
Hi Simon,
Well done to you, Paul, and John for your respective Curlew Sandpipers. I thought you might be interested in a few additional records from Elton that I've come across in GM bird reports going back to 1972 and on the county database. 2 on 26th March 1973. The date seems a bit strange, but the birds are listed under Spring Migrants. Possibly a misprint for May? 2 on 24th July 1996 1 on 9th and 1 on 16th May 1998
Whilst we think this species is a lot scarcer than it used to be, it's interesting to note that there were no published records in the county bird reports between 1974 and 1981.

As one of the few that still need Curlew sand for my GM list, I am fed up that I am always out of county when they turn up
However have just moved office and am now based at Bradley Fold Bolton, oh my how I laughed, I will endeavour to assist the warfy with Elton records.
Keep birding

Why settle for Spotted Redshankthere are much better birds on my Castleshaw wish list however, thats just what it is-a wish list. Some people dont know how lucky they are

There does seem to have been an increase in records around the UK in general of late and the north west has also profited although as a county we've done particularly well all things considered
