People have said that Elton Rocks, it certainly does at times, but the real rockers are Peter and "she who is always obeyed",NORMA, they put so much effort and time into real conservation, whilst working full time, a medal is deserved!!!

Of the 21 pairs we have had breeding this year there has been at least 36 young. After the bad start that we had we never thought we would end up with this many pairs and young.
We also have 4 pairs of Kestrels producing 19 young, 1 pair of which have now reared 23 young in the last 4 years.
Also have 7 pair of Stock Doves, number of young unknown.

Hi John,
There is a pair around Elton but they are in a private location. Last time I looked a fortnight ago they were on 4 eggs.
If you're interested and know of a suitable, private site I can put up a box for you.

Peter,
That's really good news knowing there is so many Tawny Owls in the area. I am in the Bolton area beneath Winter Hill and although I know Tawny's are around my estate, I have yet to see one. We do check Elton out on a regular basis and have been told they are near by the resevoir?
If you have any further advice for me, that would be great.
Regards, John

We have 21 pairs of Tawny Owls breeding this year in the Bury area. It's been a typical breeding season in as much that we have still birds on eggs and some that have fledged several weeks ago.
We started slowly. No sign of Tawnys at some sites where they had bred for several years. At other sites we have them where they haven't been for some time.
Grey squirrels again have been a nightmare building dreys in many boxes. It's about time something was done to eradicate these tree rats!
Will have a final total of young within the next few weeks.
