It's possible that the boundary was altered in 1996, when some amendments were made to boundaries between parts of GM and Cheshire, which could explain your thinking John. The airfield opposite Kenyon Hall Farm, controversially located near to Highfield Moss SSSI/the M6 motorway is in Wigan Borough's deep south - Wiggin-Leigh International Airport

The railway line does indeed form part of the county boundary John but only on the eastern side of Winwick Lane. On the western side of Winwick Lane the road itself forms the county boundary (so Kenyon Hall Farm is indeed in Cheshire) to just south of Sandy Brow. So everything off to the west of Winwick Lane to the latter point is in Greater Manchester but only by a field or so.
Thats 3 more county ticks for me thenonly kiddingalthough I always thowt opposite kenyon hall farm was in cheshire,I stand corrected

A little owl has been showing fairly regularly last thing in the evening for the last few weeks, between Dickinson's Farm and Tunnel Top (Kenyon Wood), generally on telegraph poles beside the road.
