Did my final "Winter" Atlas Timed Tetrad Visit around Mossley and Greenfield yesterday.
As well as the daffodils everywhere and frogs spawning in nearly every flooded ditch and pond (much to the Herons' delight!), some Lapwings had established territories, a Skylark was singing over the top of Noonsun Hill and at least 8 Herons were sitting in the Greenfield colony.
Curlews are not yet back on the moors (though a Song Thrush was doing a pretty good impersonation!) neither are the Meadow Pipits or Stonechats. A flock of 90 Lapwings were enjoying the results of a farmer's muck-spreading (presumably birds on passage).
